38 itemsWelcome to John Carter Brown Library - Philippines Collection
The Philippines are included within this collection since during the colonial period the islands were administered from Mexico. Manila's first press began in 1593, and was thus the third city in the Spanish overs eas empire to have a press. As with the other two, Mexico and Peru, much of the early output consisted of doctrinal works, often in indigenous languages. The earliest Manila imprint held by the JCB is Arte y reglas de la lengua Tagala printed in 1610.
